History
The work was made by the Mexican sculptor based in Mexico Romulo Rozo in 1956. Upon his death in 1964, his remains were deposited at the foot of the great work.
Description
It consists of carved solid stone, which through images and figures of different characters narrates the history of Mexico, from pre-Hispanic times, to the first decades of the 20th century.
In this monument you can appreciate many carved details of the Mayan culture such as: the coat of arms of the city of Mérida, the chac mool, the Mayan hut, 2 armed and prostrate tiger knights.
In the lower part we can see a large sculpted ceiba, with 4 butterflies on the top, the glory and the conquest of the peoples of Mexico.
