How to get
How to get to Sima de las parrots by car:
From the city of Tuxtla Gtz:
Drive west towards the town of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, also known as Coita, located less than an hour away, from this village you head north towards Malpaso where you will find a deviation a few minutes from Ocozocoautla to the left, accompanied by A large sign for the park “Sima de las Cotorras”.
From this deviation you must travel 13 kilometers apxo. to reach the chasm, the road becomes dirt and in some parts loose gravel, however any car can travel these roads.
Remember to follow the signs and ask local citizens for “La sima de las cotorras” in case you get lost.
How to get to the Sima de las cotorras by public transport:
From Tuxtla Gtz:
You can take a bus to Ocozocoautla de Espinosa on the central avenue, just in front of the Plaza Galerías there is a bus and combis stop where you can take it.

50 min of travel.
The bus can say in the signs “Coita” and “Ocozocoautla”, you can easily recognize it by the drawing of a pineapple, traditional symbol of Ocozocoautla.
When you arrive at Ocozocoautla or Coita you can look for a collective (combi) that takes you to the Corinto or Piedra Parada communities, in case you can not find it you can hire a moto-taxi with a maximum capacity for 3 people.
From these villages that we mentioned in last place the missing route measures more than 12 kilometers, if the motorcycle can not take you you must walk.

Description:
Descent in free fall on the walls of the chasm until reaching the ground at 140 meters depth, from there you walk another 40 meters visiting the jungle area. By day only 12 people can perform this activity.
Note:
Only 2 people plus the guide can do this activity to maintain greater control and protect visitors.

Note:
There are always people taking care of the place, if you want to arrive at night you should look for the managers in the main palapa where the restaurant is located.

Meaning of the name:
Sima with “s” refers to a deep well that has been created from a fissure or geological fault, which communicates the exterior with the bottom.

The park has cabins, restaurant and camping area, the entire circumference of the chasm can be traveled on the trails.
History:
On the walls of this chasm cave paintings have been found, they correspond to the first hominids of the region or possibly the Zoque culture. It is thought that they were made when the site was shallow, since they are painted on a completely vertical wall that can only be accessed at the moment with abseiling equipment.
Tips:
Visit between April and June, when the parrots feed their chicks.
